The Baby Name Game

With the exciting  news of my first pregnancy came the wondering. Will it be a girl or a boy and what will we name our little one? The lists went on and on as my husband and I hashed out various names from popular to traditional. We settled on names that fit two criteria; they hadn’t been previously used as a first name by close friends or family members and they sounded good with Horsey…a name I’ve always felt could become a source for schoolyard teasing (my husband vehemently disagrees) You can imagine we nixed Ryder and Gray off the list! It turned out we could both agree on a name that had been passed down by generations on my husband’s side…Yay bonus points with the in-laws!  That also made naming our second son much easier since we had to be fair to both sides, right?

It seems celebrities have their own criteria for baby naming. Their publicized names often make me wonder if they are just a cover for what they will REALLY call them to protect their identities. Perhaps schoolyard teasing is not a concern. If you are looking for some inspiration you can keep up with  the latest in celebrity arrivals at Celebrity Baby Names where you can see the popular, the cute and the creative in celebrity offspring naming.

I love teaching

This fall I was privileged to teach several pendant making classes to high school and adult students. I find sharing information and techniques rewarding and I especially enjoy seeing what each individual does with what they are given. Precious Metal Clay is such a great medium to teach because good results are very quickly achieved with the magic of turning something clay-like to metal by torch firing.  Some people are naturals at designing and perhaps didn’t even know it! Others struggle a bit, working and reworking until they come up with something.  With a little effort each piece turns out with its own charm! It amazes me how different we all are, how differently we learn, apply instructions and share our creativity.

My next scheduled class is January 31st 2010 1-4 at the Cambridge Centre for the Arts. Create at least one pair of earrings and learn about earring findings and how to use them.  Register by calling the Centre for the Arts www.cambridgecentreforthearts.ca 519-740-4681 x 4376

If you are interested in learning PMC or beading and can get a group of 6 or more together I’d love to teach you to make your own wearable art!
